Located in the Zaoqiao Township of Miaoli, the one-kilometer-long Zhenghan Trail is a friendly trail that accepts all levels of experience. If you are looking for hiking in Miaoli with gentle slopes to avoid drastic elevation changes, Zhenghan Trail will be a delight. Within a fifteen-minute walk, you will soon reach the monument on top, where a commanding view of the vast paddy fields down below will amaze you, especially the beautifully curved rail track surrounding the field. Many photography enthusiasts will be found on top, waiting for the train to break into their viewfinders.
The monument is dedicated to a young man of Zhenghan, who sacrificed his own life to save two children from drowning in the dam, while he got caught in a barbed wire and drown himself in the water. The villagers therefore erected this monument to mark his heroics. Managed by the nearby university and the local community, the hiking trail is wooded with shady trees to make it easy to hike under the scorching Taiwanese sun. Most hikers, regardless of age or experience, would find it enjoyable.
