Daxingshan Temple sitting up on Jiuhua Mountain is a religious mecca in Miaoli, venerating Guanshiyin Buddha as the primary deity. The unsophisticated design of a classical Chinese garden has successfully created an uplifting spiritual place for those in quest of serenity and tranquility. Dedicated to saving the world and benefiting the people, the temple doesn’t seek financial support from individual worshippers; only some food offerings are accepted to prepare the vegetarian noodles for the visitors — it is to form a connection with the believers. Besides the noodles, connections are also made through the great compassion water and the little glutinous rice balls only offered at the religious assembly. That’s something unique to Daxingshan Temple.

There are many varying legends about the founder Bhikshuni Fu Hui, who maintained a lifelong vow of silence and only communicated through writing. It is said that anyone who requested great compassion water from her had their wishes granted, so myriads of worshippers still flood here to pray for blessings and mercy towards them.
