The Northernmost Frontier is on the north coast of Xiyin Island (西引島) and, as the northernmost point in the territory of the Republic of China, it is a very important landmark on Matsu. In fact, the real Northernmost Frontier is 600 meters to the north of Xiyin Island and is called Beigujiao (北固礁) ( N26°22'58.8"", E120°28'34.0""). But, because this little island disappears at high tide and is not visible all the time, you’ll have to try your luck if you want to see it.
The Northernmost Frontier monument is a perfect place for gazing at the endless sea. In addition to being close to Beigujiao, there is a clear layer of rock surface called luohanping (羅漢坪) which attracts onlookers. If the sky is clear and visibility is high, you can even see the contours of the islands and mainland of China in the distance. If you come here in the evening, make sure to enjoy the sunset of Xiyin Island- it is an absolute must-do.
