Taibai Echo Cliff is a sea cliff next to the entrance of Dongyin Lighthouse (東引燈塔) and is a perfect place to gaze into the distance off Dongyin Island’s (東引島) east coast. An endless blue ocean spreads out before you, and terrain close to you is steep and coloured snow white. Dongyin Lighthouse stands on the cliff behind you, and you can see a tiny camouflaged military camp secretly guarding this beautiful corner nearby. This place is called Taibai Echo Cliff because the wave-cut gully down below always echoes with the sound of the ocean hitting the cliffs, especially during the middle of the rain season in spring and summer. The thick fog dominates the space, while the sound of wind and rain booms its way around the gully. The name “Taibai” captures the sense of illusion at this place. Like Dongyin Lighthouse and Lienu Yikeng Cliff (烈女義坑), Taibai Echo Cliff is situated on the east coast of Dongyin Island. As these sites are not far away from each other, so seeing the three together makes a great half-day trip.
