Sitting on the top of Mountain Mao (Maoshan) next to Shuitou village, Maoshan Pagoda was one of the three historic pagodas built in the Ming dynasty on Kinmen island. However, the seven-story-high hexagonal pagoda standing today is not the very original one. In fact, there are two different theories about the disappearance of the original Maoshan Pagoda. Some people think that it was ruined in 1961 during the 823 Artillery Bombardment carried out by Chinese communist forces on Kinmen, while some believe it was the R.O.C. forces themselves that decided to tear down the pagoda as it seemed to be a primary target pointing out the direction of the nearby military base. In 2004, the government reconstructed the tower based on its remains and historical records so as to reveal the full glory of Maoshan Pagoda.

Maoshan Pagoda overlooks Shuitou Port and Shuitou village as well as Xiamen and Lieyu Township in the distance. Trails are built around the pagoda, allowing visitors to explore the area while enjoying the scenic view.
