Wind Lion God Heritage House

There is an abundance of stone lions in Kinmen. These are Kinmen’s Wind Lions, traditional totems believed to have the power to control the winds and ward off evil spirits. Regarded as the guardian gods of the island, they can be found at the entrance to every village around the island — such a cultural scene is something unique to Kinmen.

If you can’t spend a few more days exploring all the sites one by one, why not simply pay a visit to the Wind Lion God Heritage House? Converted from the largest mansion in Shuitou Village, the museum stores the replicas of all the statues from the island, coming in different shapes, colors, and genders. Here, you can also roll up your sleeves and paint a guardian lion of your own — let the creativity flow! Or take a seat in the cafe and grab a cup of very intriguing specialities such as “Mao Zedong’s milk tea” or “Chiang Kai-shek’s special.” If you want to take your local experience to a whole new different level, ask for a boiled egg made with fermented Kaoliang liquor and Chinese herbs. It looks a bit unusual, but the taste is hard to beat!
