No. 7, Minsheng Rd., Jincheng Township, Kinmen County 893, Taiwan (R.O.C.)
Kinmen is best-known for its military associations, abandoned army tunnels, forts and underground harbors. Beneath the streets of Jincheng Township lies the 2.5-kilometer-long Civil Defense Tunnel, connecting all the strategic points within the area like a network of capillaries. Well-equipped with air-raid shelters, ammunition depots and pillboxes, the tunnel testifies to the danger that Kinmen residents faced when military tensions ran high between China and Taiwan.
The tunnel is open to the public with free admission, while the capacity is limited. Visitors can walk through the tunnel by guided tour only and must be wearing helmets for their own safety. If you want to experience the unimaginable tensions during horrific battles and bombardments that occurred on the island, make your way down to this narrow underground tunnel in an absolute darkness.
