Besides abandoned army tunnels, forts and underground harbors, Kinmen also boasts an enchanting landscape abundant in serene green hills and tranquil shimmering lakes. If you ride around the south western part of the island, you’ll run into the picturesque Gugang Tower neighboring the scenic Gugang Lake.

Surrounded by undulating hills, Gugang Lake is the largest half-natural-and-half-man-made lake in Kinmen. To the west is Xiantai Mountain, where the remains of Prince of Lu of the Ming dynasty are said to buried. When you reach the top of the tower, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the natural surroundings that not only provide peace but offer inspiration.

Before Gugang Tower was put up, the site was once a cemetery. At that time, Chiang Kai-shek was very fond of the peaceful scenery of Gugang Lake, so the construction of the three-story-high Gugang Tower was ordered and finally completed in 1964 after ten months of unremitting work.
