Shanhou Folk Culture Village

Attraction stories

Shanhou Folk Culture Village is located in Jinsha Township, Kinmen County, where the traditional Minnan architecture exudes a strong historical atmosphere. The houses in the village present a two-entry design, featuring elements of Southeast Asian style. These buildings were constructed by Wang Guozhen and his son Wang Jingxiang in the 26th year of the Guangxu era during the Qing Dynasty (1900) and have become the residence of the Wang clan. The village is also known as "Eighteen Rooms," a name that reveals it actually has 16 residential buildings, one school (Haizhu Hall), and one ancestral hall for the Wang family, showcasing the unique local culture of Kinmen.

Shanhou Folk Culture Village was officially designated as a Folk Culture Village after renovations by the Kinmen County Government in 1979. The village features seven functional halls, including a Folk Art Museum, a Ritual Hall, and a Celebration Hall, which enable visitors to gain a deeper understanding of local customs and culture. Although the buildings in the village are somewhat worn due to erosion from the sea winds, they enhance the old-world charm, transporting visitors back in time to experience the flow of history.

As visitors enter the village, they are inevitably drawn to the unique image of the Wind Lion God. These charming statues often hold cameras, ready to take photos with tourists, symbolizing the unique heritage of Kinmen culture. Moreover, the wishing pond in the village symbolizes business success, and visitors frequently toss coins into the pond, silently hoping for smooth work and prosperity.

For food lovers, the snacks at Shanhou Folk Culture Village are particularly tempting. The oyster noodle shop is renowned for its fresh oysters, drawing countless tourists to taste this local delicacy. To reach the village, visitors can take a bus; from the Shawan Station or Samei Station, buses 25 or 31 will easily bring them there.

Shanhou Folk Culture Village does not charge an entry fee and is open every day from 08:00 to 17:00. Visitors are reminded that some buildings may not be accessible, and it is advisable to confirm in advance.
