Beishan is where the bloody Battle of Guningtou came to an end. The R.O.C. forces defeated the last batch of Chinese communist troops on the Beishan cliff and took more than nine hundred Communist soldiers into captivity. Today, a deserted broadcasting wall of speakers that was used for anti-China propaganda and to communicate with China across the sea can still be seen in Beishan. It is said that the 48 speakers could broadcast for 25 kilometers, which is more than enough to reach the people on the other side of the strait.

There is an empty military command post in the village of Beishan, whose outer walls are still riddled with bullet holes, serving as a sobering reminder of the utter catastrophe back in 1949.
