The best resource in Kenting is not water sports and beach activities. This peninsula contains bountiful natural resource that will surprise everyone, even the biologist. Nanrenshan Ecological Reserve Area is such place. Under the jurisdiction of Kenting National Park, this reserve area in Manzhou County requires permission before getting in. The 5800 hectare tropical area has one of the few remaining virgin forest of low altitude. Thousands of creatures dwell among the dense forest and lakes. As you walk along the 4 kilometer trail, you can see butterflies, dragonflies, cicadas flying around the broadleaf forest, not to mention the birds chirping all the way. There are also many fern plants growing between trees. In October, a large number of gray-faced buzzard eagles come here for winter from China and Japan. You can see them hovering with the ascending air current. That is truly a magnificent view. This area is also valuable for academic research and environmental education. In several basins of the area, there are several lakes and swamps due to the lack of outlet of water. This is the Nanren Lake. This lake has existed for a very long time, and the total area is around 28 hectare large, which is beautiful and peaceful when you see it.
