Migaocheng

Kaohsiung's Yancheng District boasts many traditional delicacies. Probably because the district had once gone into decline, the common snacks enjoyed by ordinary people do not give way to the rising housing price. When they come to the district, many tourists to Kaohsiung will visit Migaochengin particular to sample the signature migao (rice cake, 米糕). Different from migao in northern Taiwan, which is softer and is shaped like a cup, the migao provided here is served in a small bowl, with tiny minced pork, cucumber, and rousong (meat floss, 肉鬆) on the top. The dish is more like luroufan (minced pork rice, 魯肉飯), which is usually seen in some suburban areas. The eatery is kind of famous on the internet, but the comments are mixed. The most common complaint is that the portion is small yet the price is high, and that the dishes are not served in a friendly way. But sometimes it's just impossible to avoid this kind of situation in a modest yet well-known eatery.
