Hefeng Kayou Night Market

Attraction stories

Night markets are essential to Taiwanese culture and have been around for longer than you can imagine. A trip to Taiwan is never ever complete without touring one of the night markets. Connected by two adjacent night markets in Kaohsiung — Kaixuang & Jinzuan — this is once the largest night market in southern Taiwan. It can be easily accessible by light rail. If you are not comfortable carrying cash all the time, Hefeng Kayou Night Market accepts credit cards such as UnionPay.

At Kaixuang Night Market, each row of vendors is named after a major street in Kaohsiung, with every single vendor having its own door plate, while the aisles at Hefeng Kayou Night Market derived their names from twelve zodiac signs to make sure visitors don't get lost in this maze of goodness. The night markets are saturated with vendors selling clothes, accessories, snacks, electronics and many more. Sometimes, there are cultural performances that entertain visitors while they enjoy the yummy goodies. To whet your palate for adventure and exploration, don’t forget to visit that juice bar where beverages named after different types of gasolines are served in gas cans. If you are daring enough, why not try some fried grasshoppers sprinkled with salt and pepper?
