Fukelai

In recent years, traditional Chinese style restaurants have become fewer in Kaohsiung. But despite it already being thirty years old, Fukelai is going as strong as ever, and has even expanded to include three branches in total. With more than 100 dishes on its menu, it features a range of culinary styles, with dishes unique to Kaohsiung, Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions and even Hakka cuisine. The style of the restaurant is inspired by traditional Chinese decorations, which are simple and ornate, making it different to most restaurants in Kaohsiung. Circular tables lend themselves to traditional group Chinese dining and the auspicious color of red adorns the straight-backed chairs and lifts the moods of diners. The beautiful vintage furnishings, such as a red bed and an antique sedan are favorites for amateur photographers who happen upon this unexpected gem, and foreigners who are intrigued by the traditional furnishings and the Chinese style clothes worn by the wait staff. Indeed, the interior design, combined with the wide variety of dishes on offer, make this a favorite among foreign visitors to Taiwan. We recommend booking a table to eat here as spaces fill quickly on the weekend, especially as this is a favorite destination for wedding banquets.
