Although its subway system is not as crowded as that of Taipei, and the subway lines available are limited, several of Kaohsiung’s MRT stations are world-renowned and well worth a visit in themselves. One of these, of course, is Formosa Boulevard Station, where the four exits are made out of transparent glass much like the design of Tunghai University’s Luce Memorial Church. The CNN has named this station one of the 11 most impressive metro stations in the world. And, as expected, inside the station, the colorful glass ceiling in the Dome of Light is a sight to behold. As interesting of course, are the hordes of “selfie” professionals, who find this a perfect setting for taking interesting shots in front of the many-colored masterpiece. Kaohsiung International Airport Station (高雄國際機場站) is another hotspot for photography of the many artworks that have been included in the design of the station.

Central Park Station (中央公園站) is also an award-winning station, having been ranked in the top 50 most beautiful subway stations in the world in 2011 and 2012. This station occupies a very large underground space on two levels with three exits. Its courtyard is especially famous, featuring little windmill shaped flowers covering the grass areas. If you are already on the subway to Formosa Boulevard, make sure you stop off at the next stop towards Guangshan South Station (南岡山站) to appreciate the beautiful Central Park Station too!
