Train Station Milkfish

Located right in front of the Hualien Train Station, Train Station Milkfish may seem inconspicuous from the outside but has been a lighthouse for many late-night diners over the years. Often full soon after the door is open, this eatery is running from 5:30 p.m. all the way to midnight.

Each bowl of hearty soup and congee is a warming symphony of fresh ingredients, from fish balls, meatballs, oysters to a whole piece of boneless milkfish. Sprinkled with a pinch of celeries and a bit of gingers, the broth is simply delectable. Flavorful yet not overly greasy, the braised pork rice has a touch a southern taste, and the tender pork literally melts in your mouth as you bite in.
