Mingxin Black Tea

Mingxin Black Tea and Miaokou Black Tea are two well-known breakfast places in Hualien, and both are highly recommended by locals. Unlike Miaokou Black Tea that runs 24 hours a day, Mingxin Black Tea is only open in the morning but prides itself on offering a variety of traditional breakfast choices such as the soy-stewed pork rice as well as the meat geng soup.

The egg pancakes here are also much loved by its loyal patrons. Thick, moist and spongy, the egg pancake with cheese is simply a delight to behold. The soy-stewed pork rice comes in a generous serving at a very wallet-friendly price of TWD40. Topped with a big chunk of pork and a piece of oily bean curd, it can be a bit greasy for breakfast, but this filling treat is sure to satisfy. The meat geng soup is another favorite of many. Geng is a soup in which starch has been added to make it thick, smooth and translucent. With celeries sprinkled on top, it is served in a rich broth of bamboo sprouts and shredded carrots. Seasonings are added to give it a strong flavor.

Mingxin Black Tea is an eatery with an unadorned dining space and basic-at-best food, where locals and tourists alike flock in the early morning to kick-start their day and please their stomach in the most pleasant way possible.
