Luyu Eatery

In the late 40s, a significant number of Chinese Nationalists fled to Taiwan due to losing the Chinese Civil War, and many of them decided to settle down in the East Coast of Taiwan — Hualien. This has further contributed to the birth of Luyu Eatery, an authentic taste of home, which helps pacify the nostalgia in many elderly people originated from northern China. This eatery has long been a favorite in town, and even international diners can be seen among the crowd trying out the robust taste of old-time delight.

The signature dish is the noodle slice soup, where the al dente noodles are similar with Hakka flat noodles but a bit wider, and the soup with rich flavors and delightful aromas is simple but loaded with generous fresh ingredients. Since we are talking about northern Chinese cuisine here, how can we miss out on sweet & sour soup and dumplings? The soup coming with a hearty serving is a bowl of comfort on a cold winter day, and the dumplings are so satisfying and filling. Spoil yourself with some other side dishes such as pickled cucumber, spicy fish & dried tofu, and braised pig’s head skin. Besides noodles, items on the menu also include all sorts of stir-fries ranging from beef, seafood to veggies and tofu. Every dish can be served as a large, medium or small portion. It is highly recommended to give it a go on some of the most-ordered items, including sautéed sliced beef with scallions and grilled tofu on a sizzling iron plate.
