Hangrou BBQ

If you want to have a retro dining experience to reflect the nostalgia of your school days, make your way to Hangrou BBQ in Hualien. Once stepping into the restaurant, you will see that it has somewhat captured the ambience of an old classroom back in the good old days. The wooden tables and chairs are reminiscent of everyone’s primary school. It seems to be a perfect place to enjoy the great barbecue selection with a few pints. Stir-fries and cold plates are available as well; most of them are quite salty but go well with the beer.

The restaurant shares the name “Hangrou” with its specialty dish, which is grilled with barbecue sauce and sprinkled with a pinch of coriander and sesame. The juicy, succulent perfectly greasy meat is aromatic and tastes as good as if it was straight from the butcher. The fried intestines are very nicely done and delightfully appetising with the slightly sour sauce. The most-ordered item on the menu is the stir-fried instant noodles with a generous serving of black fungus, cabbages, shredded carrots and more. If you’re an avid carnivore, “Urn Chicken” (a whole chicken roasted in a barrel) will make your hungry tummy very happy.
