Yage Cat House has officially closed its doors.
Located inside Tsinghua University's Bailingtang, Yage Cat House was a multifunctional space that combined a café, a bookstore, and a cinema. It not only offered delicious coffee and a wide selection of books but also became an important venue for cultural events, attracting many students and residents interested in the arts. The stage area at Yage Cat House featured a piano and sound system, regularly hosting a variety of performances, and every Tuesday and Saturday at 8:30 PM, it screened carefully selected art films from around the world, such as Allan Renai's work "The Lonely Noise," giving each night there a unique atmosphere.
The Wall of Fame is a highlight of Yage Cat House, showcasing the autographs of many notable figures in the arts, from Yang Zhao to Su Wei-Cheng, and even including Nobel Prize-winning physicist Yang Chen-Ning. These signatures not only provide opportunities for cultural exchange but also infuse the venue with a rich cultural ambiance. The bookstore at Yage Cat House proudly holds tens of thousands of literature and philosophy books, including many precious foreign titles, ensuring that every visitor can find a book to their liking.
Additionally, the dining services at Yage Cat House added to the charm of this spot, offering comfortable seating and allowing customers to immerse themselves in a cultural atmosphere while enjoying their meals. The café, managed by Tsinghua alumni Lin Qun, was established in 2013 upon his return and has hosted numerous events such as discussions and concerts, becoming an important platform for interaction both on and off campus. However, Yage Cat House ended its thirteen years of operation in 2019 due to lease issues, yet the cultural memories and lifestyle it created continue to live on in people's hearts.
It’s worth mentioning that there were also some adorable cats roaming freely inside Yage Cat House, adding warmth and liveliness to this cultural space. Whether sitting by the window listening to live jazz or quietly enjoying literary masterpieces on the shelves, Yage Cat House uniquely allowed every visitor to feel the nourishment of culture and the beauty of life.
