Located on Green Island off Taiwan's eastern coast, Asahi Hot Spring (or Zhaori Hot Spring) is one of only three naturally occurring saltwater hot springs in the world, with the other two found in Kyushu, Japan, and Sicily, Italy. This unique geothermal attraction is famous for its stunning location, facing the Pacific Ocean, where visitors can enjoy a relaxing soak while watching a magnificent sunrise, listening to the sound of crashing waves, or stargazing at night.

The saltwater spring, heated by geothermal energy, has temperatures between 60-70°C. Its slightly salty sulfur water is thought to benefit the skin. The site offers outdoor pools, indoor spas, and a cooking area using the spring water.

The hot spring is closed for cleaning from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily. Operating hours are subject to seasonal adjustments; please refer to the official East Coast National Scenic Area (ECNSA) website or the official Asahi Hot Spring Facebook page for the actual schedule.

Green Island Lighthouse

The Green Island Lighthouse, located on Bitou Cape on the northwestern side of Green Island, is one of the island's most iconic landmarks. Standing at 33.3 meters high, its pure white, tubular tower is a striking sight against the backdrop of the blue sky and emerald sea, making it one of Green Island's most popular tourist attractions.

The Green Island Lighthouse was built based on a historical event. In 1937, the American cruise liner SS President Hoover ran aground on reefs near Green Island. The local residents of Green Island, disregarding their own safety, bravely rescued the passengers on board. Moved by this heroic act, the US government offered its gratitude. The American Red Cross then donated funds to help construct the lighthouse. The lighthouse was completed in 1939 but was damaged by bombing during World War II. It was later rebuilt to its current appearance in 1948.

Fanchuanbi Grassland

Fanchuanbi Grassland is located on the southeastern corner of Green Island, featuring a flat, raised coral reef platform that extends into the sea. This vast, verdant grassland, surrounded by the deep blue ocean and endless sky, offers a breathtaking panorama and has earned the nickname "Green Island's Carpet".

Wild animal sightings: It is common to see free-roaming goats grazing on the grassland, and you might even spot Formosan sika deer.

Stunning sunrises and moonrises: Thanks to its open, elevated position, it is one of the best spots on the island to watch the sunrise, sunset, or moonrise.

A mere 50-minute boat ride from Taitung, Green Island, formerly known as "Fire Island," is an enchanting volcanic island spanning 16.2 square kilometers, located approximately 33 kilometers east of Taitung City. Shaped by long-term weathering and sea erosion, its dramatic landscape boasts a diverse and winding coastline.

As night falls, embark on night tours to spot sika deer, relax in the therapeutic Zhaori Hot Spring, and enjoy spectacular stargazing.

Guanyin Cave

Guanyin Cave is a natural limestone cave situated on the uplifted coral reefs of Green Island's northeastern coast. The cave, formed by long-term erosion from underground water, features unique stalactites and stalagmites.

Legend holds that a lost fisherman was guided ashore by an eastern fireball, leading to the discovery of the cave and a one-meter stalagmite resembling Guanyin. This "Stone Guanyin" became a significant local spiritual hub. Worship involves facing away from the east-oriented stalagmite. A traditional archway and wishing board are located at the entrance for visitors.

General Rock

General Rock is a spectacular group of wave-cut platform rocks located on the northeast coast of Green Island, next to the Human Rights Memorial Park. The rock formation gets its name from its distinctive shape, which, after years of erosion by the sea, resembles a resolute general wearing a helmet and armor, standing proudly by the coast as if guarding the ocean for centuries.

The main component of the rock is volcanic rock (andesite agglomerate). Years of pounding waves and weathering have shaped this unique and striking geological landscape. Visitors can admire this natural masterpiece up close while enjoying the sea breeze and the stunning views of Green Island's azure coastline. Conveniently located along the island's coastal road, General Rock is a popular photo spot for travelers exploring Green Island.
