Introduction to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park
Located in Xinyi District, Taipei, "Songshan Cultural and Creative Park" is a historically significant building dating back to the Japanese colonial period. It is also commonly known as "Songyan."
"Songshan Cultural and Creative Park" was formerly the Songshan Tobacco Factory, Taiwan’s first professional cigarette manufacturing plant. Well-known cigarette brands from the past, such as Long Life and New Paradise, were produced here. The factory ceased operations in 1998 when it merged with Taipei Tobacco Factory and was officially retired. In 2001, the Taipei City Government designated it as a municipal heritage site. Many industrial-style buildings, including the cigarette manufacturing plant and boiler room, have been preserved. After a comprehensive transformation, the site was reborn as the "Songshan Cultural and Creative Park" we know today.
Now, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is not only a venue for exhibitions and events but also home to several attractions, such as the Baroque Garden, an ecological landscape pond, and a variety of must-try restaurants. It is an ideal destination for a one-day tour of Songyan.

Songshan Cultural and Creative Park - Must Visit Attraction 3: Tobacco Production Factory

The "Tobacco Production Factory" is one of the core areas of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and another significant historical landmark within the park.
Built in 1937, this factory was once Taiwan’s largest cigarette production facility and, at the time, the largest tobacco factory in Southeast Asia. Many of Taiwan’s most well-known cigarette brands were produced here.
This two-story structure retains its original industrial-style architecture. However, with economic development, urban planning changes, and an increasing focus on public health, cigarette demand declined. As a result, the Songshan Tobacco Factory ceased operations in 1998. The facility was later relocated and merged with Taipei Tobacco Factory, after which it was designated a municipal heritage site and transformed into a cultural and creative space.
Today, the first floor of the factory has been repurposed into a cultural and creative marketplace, offering a wide variety of design products, handcrafted items, and artisanal goods. The second floor is now an exhibition space, hosting various themed exhibitions such as art shows, design expos, and photography exhibitions.
