Cloud Gate Theater

Cloud Gate Theater is the first Taiwanese professional modern dance group, dance of which combines ballet, modern dance, tai chi, and even internal martial arts. Blending the beauty from the Eastern and Western culture, Cloud Gate Theater has been touring around the world. In addition to performances in formal theaters, sometimes the troupe gives large-scale outdoor performances in many of Taiwan’s townships. These performances always attract tens of thousands of audience. Because the culture it cultivates and the influence it exerts have deep roots in Taiwan, streets and an asteroid have even been named after "Cloud Gate," which signifies the founder Lin Hwai-min's contribution to the society. Unfortunately, in 2008, a fire demolished the troupe's rehearsal studio in Bali, destroying almost all the props and archives. Later, with the help of the government and the private sector, "Cloud Gate Theater," a theater complex bearing the same name with the troupe, was rebuilt at the former site of Radio Taiwan International. The outstanding architecture boasts a modern feel. Surrounded by works of Juming, the whole theater is vibrant and lively. Even on the days when there's no performance taking place, it's still pleasant and relaxing to sit on the bench admiring the flowers here.
