With a total length of 6.32 kilometers and an elevation difference of 600 meters between the highest and lowest points, Tefuye Old Trail is a very much loved path within the Alishan Scenic Area, drawing in a significant number of hikers who enjoy venturing into the wide along the old rail tracks preserved from the Japanese Colonial Era.

There are two entrances to the old trail: one is Zizhong Station on the Provincial Highway No. 18, and the other is two kilometers away from Dabang Tefuye Villa. Most people will enter through the former. Lined with artificial forests of Japanese cedar, the first 3.7 kilometers are steadily uphill but fairly simple and very scenic. If you are not a seasoned hiker, the easiest way to wrap up your hike is to return at the 3.7 km mark, where you get to appreciate the tranquil view of the old railway and lush green forests. If time and energy allowed, continue to hike those steps on wooden ties under the railroad tracks until you complete the rest of 2.6 kilometers. With an elevation difference of almost 400 meters between the highest and lowest points, the last section of the trail boasts diverse landscapes that change through the four seasons and is also a great location for birdwatching.
