Venerating Sufu Wangye, a deity widely worshipped by locals Kinmen and Fujian, Kinmen Temple also serves as a townsmen association. It was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty, but the renovation during the reign of Emperor Daoguang brought it to the way it looks today. In 2000, it was granted historical landmark status, mostly owing to its architectural significance.

The temple has two halls with three front doors. Both halls are equipped with bedrooms on the sides that were used to accommodate the Qing naval officers waiting to be shifted elsewhere for garrison duty. Most temples in Lukang were built facing the estuary, while Kinmen Temple points to the south. If you are particularly into religious art, take a closer look at the paintings of the door gods as they are the masterpieces of some of the Taiwanese greats including Pan Yue-xiong and Chen Shou-yi.
