Zhongxin Market, a small indoor market, hides among these 3-stories residences which are opposite to National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (國立台灣美術館). Even for Taichung-ers, not many of them know much about this place. The market has its rainshed set between buildings, while the first floor and alley are used as the store; it also utilizes (only) natural light as lighting. Nowadays, most rolling doors on ground level are pulled down and only a few vendors selling fruits here. Stacked stuff along streets make the place more like half-ruined rather than a market.

It was built in 1960s. The district had a dense population during 80s and 90s, then declined due to economic downturn. Though there are still residents here, the number is few. Tourists are the largest group could be seen in the place now. While vegetable sales could hardly be found here, entries of theme cafes, art galleries and installation artists bring new life to the old community with art.

It is a good place for taking photos - not only famous photographers would lead their client here for pre-wedding photos, but some Taiwanese idol dramas and movies film here. Because there are still residents living here, be watchful for the disturbance you may occur to them.
