No.12, Xiaokeng, Shimen Dist., New Taipei City 253, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

The Shimen District of New Taipei City is the northernmost area of the island as well as the home of wind power. Driving along the coastal highway, you will spot a number of white windmills standing tall on the hill near the incense-choked Eighteen Kings Temple (十八王公廟), and that is exactly the Shimen Wind Power Station, also known as Shimen Windmill Park (石門風車公園).

This wind farm consists of six giant wind turbines measuring 47 meters in diameter and 68.5 meters in height. Generating clean and renewable energy, these wind turbines are also a beautiful scene to adore. All the transmission cables that might sore your eyes or be obstructive to the beautiful views of the North Coast are nowhere to be seen as they are buried underground — invisible to the landscape and protected from the environment. Follow the wooden trail and take a nice walk up to the lookout to watch those blades rotating against the deep blue sky and emerald-turquoise ocean. You will surely come away with a newfound appreciation for the power of nature!
