In the nostalgic neighborhood of Dadaocheng, sitting right next to the Xiahai City God Temple is a more-than-a-century-old quaint shophouse currently named Art Yard. This place comes alive with a recreation of the traditional way of life of wealthy families at the time, complete with design elements such as delicate railings and red brick floors — Art Yard gives you a sneak peek into their luxurious life back in the old days. This shophouse has three halls with two enclosed courtyards. In the first two halls, you will find pottery works on display and on sale, including those of Sori Yanagi and Hakka-blue Le Zinc Café & Bar is secretly tucked away in the third hall and might be easily overlooked if you don’t keep your eyes peeled. On the second floor, a Chinese tea house known as South St. Delight will greet you with a decent cup of tea. Each shop is a modern design statement set in a classical setting and will surprise and delight unexpected visitors.

All the lovely products on display here are inspired by the traditions such as sauce bottles in the shape of soup dumplings placed in a bamboo steamer, fabric coffee sleeves featuring traditional Hakka patterns, and many more. The Chinese tea house and the western café & bar perfectly blend with the soul of the local culture while giving it a fresh perspective. All in all, Art Yard still retains the charm of yesteryear and is a perfect spot for international visitors to experience the glorious past as well as the exciting future of Taiwan.
