Cihu

Cihu, especial in the ‘Cultural Resort of Chiang’ is the place for learning the facts of late president Chiang Kai-shek. He likes this location when he was alive because it feels like his hometown in China. He missed his mother a lot, hence, he rename this town as ‘Cihu’, which means benevolence. He has the will to fight back to China and be buried in his hometown. It didn't succeed so his body was stored here. He believes in Fengshui so he found a place with mountain at the back north of his resting place, and with water at the front south. The building here mocks the style of Minnan and Zhejiang with bricks and red roof tiles. There is a dugout in the mountain and it works as a commanding room at war.

He is a controversial figure in Taiwan. He established the government system according to the three principles of Dr. Sun Yet-sen. However, he and his army extracted lots of resource and killed many people in Taiwan. In order to make the history right, all sculptures of him from many government organizations and schools were moved to the resort. There is a huge sitting sculpture in the center of the garden, which is four-story high. This is also the only memorial park with more than 150 sculptures of one single figure. You can learn the early history of R.O.C. from China to Taiwan.

The area at the back of the resort used to be a military restricted zone but it is open to public after 1998. You have to apply to go in and the entrance fee is TWD100. There is also a limit for the number of visitors so please confirm before you go. You can see the guards exchanging ceremony starting from 9 am, but it will be canceled if there is rain. The Baijilin trail nearby is beautiful with butterflies flying around. You can also see the commanding view of Daxi at the highest point.
