Standing on the hill behind Tamsui Old Street, Mommouth Coffee is surrounded by Hobe Fort, Itteki Memorial House, and Cloud Gate Theater. In a scorching day, after you finish visiting the attractions without shades, the cafe will serve as a perfect place for a drink with cooling air-conditioning. Unlike most beverage bars, Mommouth Coffee doesn't require a minimum charge. Since there is only a limited number of seats on the first floor, sitting outdoors while the cafe is full makes a wiser choice. Sometimes lectures are held on the second floor, and a toilet can be found on the third floor. The balcony boasts an overlooking view of Tamsui River and Guanyinshan, the latter sitting at Bali, opposite to the cafe. In Mommouth Coffee, drinks and hot dishes are much cheaper than those in downtown Taipei. Yet that's probably why they serve unimpressive drinks in paper cups. In fact, the real reason that makes Mommouth Coffee noted all over Taiwan is not its coffee or the building. Instead, another branch of the cafe in Bali is known for a double murder in 2013. The female manager killed an old couple of regular patrons for their riches. After the victims were killed, the manager disguised herself, trying to withdraw money with their ATM cards. Later, after the abandoned bodies were found on the bank of Tamsui River, the manager was arrested by the police. Yet her cold-blooded reaction shocked the society, who found it hard to imagine a 28-year-old fragile female was capable of killing two elders on her own. The then-suspected Mommouth Coffee’s owner had been acquitted and opened a new store at Tamsui, but the horrifying murder may go with the brand "Mommouth Coffee" for a lifetime.
