The name Longdong (龍洞), or “dragon cave” in Chinese, is a reference to the odd dragon-esque shape of this region's coastline. It is also the largest bay on the Northeast Coast, featuring crystal-clear water and abundant marine life, including large numbers of colorful tropical fish. The outstanding marine environment here makes it a perfect spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Longdong is divided into two recreational areas: Longdongwan Park (龍洞灣公園) and Longdong South Ocean Park (龍洞南口海洋公園). The first boasts impressive geological landscapes and seacliffs of imposing heights, while the latter is associated with recreational water activities. The sheer sandstone cliffs of Longdong offer more than just ocean side views: in fact, these cliffs have become the premiere rock-climbing destination in Taiwan due to their wide variety of rock surfaces and technical difficulty levels. If you would like to enjoy some challenging outdoor activities in northern Taiwan, Longdong is the ideal choice.
