Salt Lick

Salt Lick’s boss is a foreigner who first came to Taiwan to teach English. When he discovered he missed the smoked barbeque back home, he decided to open a restaurant selling just that in Hualien. You could be forgiven for thinking you have arrived in the USA when you come to Salt Lick. Indeed, the authentic flavor of the smoky barbeque means that more than half of the customers here tend to be foreigners. A train-shaped oven is a novelty among customers, as is the cowboy attire worn by staff. You can choose to sit in the semi-outdoor area, or opt for indoor seating instead.

Although everything on the menu is very authentic, the Kansas City Pork Ribs (堪薩斯城豬肋排) is especially recommended, as is the best grilled T-bone steak (丁骨碳烤牛排) you’ll find in Hualien. Salt Lick also sells many different kinds of beer to choose from and, on special occasions, parties are even held here. Note also that every day at noon, there is business lunch where the menu is the same as the dinner one. However, this menu has a 50% discount, making it extremely good value.
