Established in the fourth year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing dynasty, Changhua Confucius Temple played a significant role in the educational development of central Taiwan and was therefore named a national historic site, venerating the greatest sage and teacher in the Chinese history.

After Confucius passed away, he was declared the greatest sage and teacher, which is why all the main halls of Confucian temples are dedicated to Confucius and called the Hall of Great Achievements (Dacheng Hall). In front of the main hall placed a section of imperial path stone which is reserved exclusively for deities or emperors, and this accordingly reflects the high status of Confucius. Despite the fact that the Changhua Confucius standing today is a reconstruction completed in 1978 based on historical documentations, only 2/3 the size of the original one, it still managed to retain the architectural styles and collections from the Qing dynasty.
