Jiaoxi is a township in the north of Yilan County, where the natural underground hot spring is the main draw that has continuously maintained its title as one of Taiwan’s most favoured weekend hideouts. The hot spring here is also known as a “beauty soup,” something that beautifies your skin with all its natural minerals (but definitely not for drinking). While at Tangweigou Park, you are going to experience something bizarre but brilliant — a spa treatment where doctor fishes would eat away the dead skin (or keratin) of your feet, whitening the skin of feet and enhancing skin smoothness while you dip your feet into the hot spring pool. From the main entrance, the park opens up to reveal an extensive foot bath area (free of charge), and there are even some partially outdoor hot springs entered while fully in the nude. If you are looking for something more private, the central part of Jiaoxi is packed with hotels, and most of them offer temporary access to spa facilities with an entrance fee. Now, pack your swimming gear and have fun soaking in Jiaoxi.

Even if you don’t want to get your feet wet here, the park itself is a beautiful spot, and many visitors come just to escape the crowds in the city center. When the night falls, the park also has frequent street performers to entertain you and fill your night with wonder and delight.
