No.3, Lixing Ln. 3, Jiucheng S. Rd., Yilan City, Yilan County 260, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

Originally the official residence of magistrates where many important political decisions were made, the Memorial Hall of Founding of Yilan Administration was built of quality Taiwanese cypress wood, cool in summer while warm in winter, making it a pleasant place to spend a relaxed afternoon in the city of Yilan.

Everything about this memorial hall started from an old camphor tree that has been standing in the garden for more than a hundred years. The tree was about to be cut down due to an urban renewal project. Yet, the Yilan County Government soon recognized the significant historical value of the tree as well as the building itself. The decision to retain the tree and the building was therefore made, giving new life to this historic building, which is now known as the Memorial Hall of Founding of Yilan Administration.

Established in the Japanese Colonial Era, this memorial hall has now been restored to its original state, where Japanese-style houses and Western architecture can both be found, creating a harmonious fusion of different cultures. Two hundred years have rolled away, this place continues to inspire through the local history of Yilan with exhibits of historical records.
