A bizarre, quirky building is spotted in Yilan and said to be the Taiwanese version of Howl's Moving Castle directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Some thought this mind-melting structure that looks digitally distorted is an unfortunate result of devastating earthquakes. In fact, it is home to the Jiaoxi Household Registration Office. Surprise, surprise!

It is not your contact lenses that make it appear blurry, but this wacky, funhouse-like governmental building sure play tricks on your eyes. The architect Huang Sheng-Yuan decided to do away traditional straight lines in favor of rather more mind-boggling geometry, and the building does curve and slant for real and has a cartoonish appeal.

There is a jovial liveliness to this place that seems very inviting. It becomes a sheer delight for public servants who work here as well as those who come here to seek for administrative support every single day.
