Old Railway Walkways

Over many years and governments, Taiwan’s railway system has developed into a complete system that stretches right around the island. But after it was finally completed in 1979, parts of the railways were abandoned, only to be gradually merged into the lives of the Taiwanese people. A great example is Old Railway Walkways in Hualien City, which was renovated in 2003. This 18 meters long, 6 meters wide area has become a place of trendy youth culture. Young people dance on street corners or skateboard down the roads. Some singers and actors choose here to sign autographs. Stylish boutiques offer the latest attractions to locals. Indeed, every little shop here has something of novelty to offer the swelling crowds. Some small restaurants sell delicacies of pork chop noodles, lunch boxes and iced desserts. We recommend slowly strolling down the street and peering into every shop on offer. This way, you could easily spend a whole afternoon, or even get carried away and make it into a whole night!
