National Sun Yat-sen University is the best university in Kaohsiung and is one of Taiwan's few campuses that is located between mountains and the sea, making it a beautiful place to explore. Indeed, it is not only on the mountain behind the campus that you can see scenes of monkeys fighting with dogs - you can also see a ship sailing past in the entrance to the school. Inside the campus, the guesthouse of Chiang Kai-shek, as well as some left-over, old limousines placed outside, will meet your gaze.

If you rent a bicycle at the Sizihwan MRT Station (西子灣捷運站) and cycle into the campus, you will go through a very long tunnel, passing through the North Gate that used to be used for defensive purposes in the bygone era of naval power. Then you will go past an embankment where many people illegally gather to fish, before finally arriving at a coral rock beach. If you park your bicycle, you will see crabs scuttling sideways, over the stones that have been gradually shaped and eroded by the tide. And best of all, if you climb onto the top of the cliffs in the depth of the night, you will see the bright moon gradually merging with the dark of the sea stretched before you. A memorable experience indeed.
