Originally known as Liji Bridge (利濟橋), Yang Bridge was built in 1812 by then-mayor Yang Gui-sen (楊桂森). To mark his contributions to the county of Changhua, the townsmen decided to rename the bridge and dedicate it to him. Initially a wooden bridge crossing over the old Lukang Creek (鹿港溪), Yang Bridge was one of the main traffic arteries linking Lukang to the southern Taiwan region at the time.

During the Japanese Colonial Era, the Zhuoshui River (濁水溪) overflowed and the old Lukang Creek changed its course. It was then when Yang Bridge was washed away by the flood and nowhere to be seen. In 1995, the remains of the stele and bridge piers were discovered. In order to recreate one of the eight wonders of Lukang, the local government rebuilt the bridge and established a scenic park to accommodate such a historic heritage. In near proximity, you will also find a temple that venerates the Earth God (土地公). It is believed that the Earth God always grants worshippers’ wishes to come true. Why not make a brief stop here and burn some incense sticks to find out for yourself?
