Lukang Mayor’s Residence is a historic building preserved from the Japanese Colonial Era. The architecture itself is a traditional Japanese family dwelling, where wood serves as a primary component. The foundation is supported by wood or stone posts so as to keep the building as airy as possible, to reduce the humidity and to prevent damage from wood-boring insects.

This L-shaped structure is equipped with guestrooms, bedrooms and pantry rooms, separated by bamboo-reinforced mud walls. Wooden floors and sliding doors are all very well maintained. The residence is currently operated as Lukang Township Museum of History. The museum is small but very well laid out. Local volunteers are at your disposal to tell all the interesting stories happened in Lukang, making it a unique way to peek into the past of this historic little town in central Taiwan.

The weather is always fair in the south. Why not spend a relaxing afternoon sitting on the Japanese porch and appreciating the gorgeous garden design in the lovely backyard of Lukang Mayor’s Residence?
